The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Ensures OFW Data Safety Following Ransomware Attack on 16 July 2024

On July 16, 2024, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced that its online systems had been taken offline due to a ransomware attack. Importantly, the department has confirmed that no OFW data was compromised during the incident, providing reassurance to all concerned parties.

Key Actions Taken by DMW:

  1. OECs and OFW Passes: To ensure that essential services continue uninterrupted, the DMW has implemented manual processing for Overseas Employment Certificates (OECs) and OFW Passes. These services are available at the DMW National Office, Regional Offices, One-stop Shops, and Migrant Workers Assistance Centers.
  2. Information Sheet: OFWs who need their information sheets can request them by emailing infosheet@dmw.gov.ph. The DMW will send QR-coded information sheets directly to the requesting individuals. Alternatively, requests can be made via the DMW’s official Facebook page messenger.

The DMW is also working closely with the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and airport authorities to ensure the smooth departure of OFWs.
